Rafael Viñoly Architects of 432 Park Avenue fame have, as the entire city's eyes turned upwards, been quietly working on another New York City residential project; a townhouse on East 64th Street between Lexington and Third avenues. The building at 162 East 64th Street was originally slated to echo the Seagram Buildingin aesthetics, if not intentbut a new rendering for the mixed-use office and residential building shows that the team's opted instead for a sleek glass facade (h/t ">Twitter tipster). The neighbors' opposition towards the project's former look probably had nothing to do with the switcheroo.
An earlier tipster claimed that the home was purchased by prominent Armenian-Argentinian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, who made his fortune in media and airports, and that the townhouse will serve as the U.S. headquarters for his business. A glance at the structure's building permits pretty much confirms this: the building's cellar through second floors will hold office space, and will be topped by a four-story dwelling. The former townhouse at the site has already been razed, but there's no word on the timeline for the project.
