SHoP's Curvy Rental Towers Begin Their Ascent on First Ave.

New, 4 comments

Though foundation work started more than a year ago, the SHoP Architects-designed pair of rental towers (which a commenter once compared to a couple of "forty-story cheese grater[s]") rising at 626 First Avenue currently stand at three stories and zero stories, which means that for the first time there's something to see at the former mud pit. These structures will, by the nature of their design, get more interesting as they get taller and start revealing their curves—so far, the three stories sitting at the northwest corner of the site (which will make up the base of the taller, less curvy tower) could be anything. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2017, though, so we'll keep checking in.
