Advocates who want to introduce tolls to four currently free bridges spanning the East Riverthe Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Queensboro (a.k.a. Koch) spansare revving up their campaign. Proponents of the "Move NY" plan, backed by former traffic commissioner Sam Schwartz, argue that the $8 toll ($5.54 for E-ZPass users) will help reduce congestion and raise funds for public transportation. In a 30-page proposal, the group also supports charging every vehicle crossing 60th Street in Manhattan. [NYDN/NYT; photo via Flickr]
