Aggressively Marbled Brooklyn House Thinks It's Worth $5M

New, 9 comments

Our semi-regular feature, Monday Mansion, examines the most interesting mega homes on the market in the far reaches of New York. Have a listing in mind that we're missing? Tell us about it. To the outer boroughs we go!

This four-bedroom house along the waterfront in Bay Ridge has a problem: it's addicted to marble. (Or at least some material that's a pretty good imitation.) Deeply veined varietals blanket the bathroom walls, the living room floors, the kitchen cabinets, and more. It's kind as if a quarry exploded—a deeply tacky quarry, not like the one One57's designers visited in Italy to handpick slabs for tubs. A completely stocked wood-paneled bar in the basement is one redeeming feature. The facade of the 7,400-square-foot ranch-style home is also made of stone, but it's hard to focus on that agglomeration of rock while your eyeballs are still recovering from the inside. It's asking $4,800,000.
