The Plaza's Stubborn 'Attic' Penthouse Is Back, Still Asks $59M

New, 11 comments

The Plaza's controversial, no-one-wants-to-live-here penthouse has returned to the market, and it is stubbornly asking $59 million, once again. The triplex shot to fame after it was purchased, sight unseen, by drama-inviting Russian buyer Andrei Vavilov, who then sued the Plaza because the space was more like a low-ceilinged attic, rather than the "light and airy expanse" he was offered. He managed to sell the place to London developer Christian Candy for $25.4 million, but that guy turned around and put it back on the market for $59 million. The more-than-double price hike was justified because the extravagant furnishings came with the apartment, but this time, that doesn't seem to be the case. The new listing makes no mention of furniture, but it claims that the "apartment has been meticulously redesigned and customized to an unparalleled standard by the hand of one of the world's most renowned interior designers." However, said designer goes unnamed, but since the place looks exactly like it did the last time it listed, it's safe to assume the firm is the owner's, Candy & Candy.
