Union Battles

Earlier this month, the developers of 111 West 57th Street said that they planned to build the supertall, super skinny condo tower without union labor. Well, public advocate and good friend of the unions Letitia James is not having it. She sent the developers a letter citing safety concerns and urging them to use "to consider an organized workforce that is adequately trained and fairly compensated." A spokesperson for JDS boss Michael Stern disputed the concerns, and said the firm, which use non-union labor at Walker Tower, has "established track record when it comes to successfully completing complex structures safely."
