Since much of Brooklyn Heights is protected by a historic district, it's rare that new buildings sprout up in the neighborhood, but luckily for Bonjour Capital, the developers of 172 Montague Street, their property sits outside the district's boundarieswhich is somewhat unlucky for the neighbors. Had the Landmarks Preservation Commission been involved, there's no way this building would have ruined the street wall by protruding out past its neighbors (it looks really stupid). The sidewalk-eating building is nearing completion, and the Daily News reports that rents for the 62 units will go up to $9,000 per month for a three-bedroom. Studios will start at $2,500, and building amenities include a fitness center, rooftop deck, and a full-time doorman.
