The city and state are dedicating $14.75 million to beefing up Lower Manhattan's storm resiliency, from design and planning to the first phase of implementation in the Battery Park area. Following the $335 million allocated last year to the first section of Bjarke Ingels's "Big U" flood-protection proposal, this money extends the project around Lower Manhattan's circumference, and will help turn a 10-mile "Dryline", which would prevent against future Hurricane Sandys, from a rendering (click for big) to a reality.
