After 40 years, artist Alexander Ney is being evicted from his apartment on West 47th Street. Ney moved to the apartment in 1974, and he and his wife signed what they thought was a rent-controlled lease. The landlord became their friend, but the relationship soured in 1997 after a fire. For the last year, Ney's son has been moving his father's work to storage. As of February 17, he had packed up 1,000 pieces, but some 4,000 pieces remain, and they have to be out by March 19. [NYT]
