Former Bushwick Convent to Be Turned Into Apartments

New, 1 comment

The former Our Lady of Lourdes convent in Bushwick is being redeveloped into a much larger apartment building with a 50-50 mix of affordable housing and and housing for special needs residents. The plan was first announced in 2012 as the work of non-profit Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council; now that group has teamed up with developer Georgica Green to get started on the $27 million project. NY YIMBY spotted a rendering on Green's website and some new permits, which call for the convent building to be enlarged from four stories to six, with 58 apartments and 1,215 square feet of community space. Separate permits lay out plans for a new adjacent building, eight stories and 70 feet tall, with 18 units and a 7,000-square foot community facility space. A representative of the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council told the local community board back in 2012 that the building would be staffed with counselors, nurses, security, and would include outdoor space.
