Box o' Charred Wood and Steel Is Coming To East Williamsburg

New, 17 comments

A one-story brick warehouse at 245 Manhattan Avenue near Grand Street in East Williamsburg has been leveled to make way for a new residential building. Developed by East River Partners and designed by Mortar Architecture + Development, YIMBY reports the structure will rise five stories and contain ten apartments including two- and three-bedroom units as well as duplex townhouses and a penthouse with a landscaped roof terrace. As per the architect's site, the development's facade design is "a carefully composed relationship of sustainably sourced Japanese inspired Shou-Sugi Ban charred wood cladding, a reclaimed cypress wood canopy, steel, and glass." Oh, sounds fancy. A first rendering for the project is above.
