A push to landmark the Coney Island boardwalk in order to save the wood slates from being replaced by more storm-resilient plastic ones came up short. But now, local politicians and community members, led by Councilman Mark Treyger, are bringing the issue up once again, and are prepared to submit a revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Parks Department, meanwhile, continues to claim that the plastic slats will be just and good and virtually indistinguishable, while preservationists remain severely unconvinced.
