At the moment, preservationists and the Parks department are severely at odds over the reconstruction of the Coney Island Boardwalkwhether to reinstall wood beams (the strong conviction of the former) or to replace it with a concrete-and-plastic combination that looks like wood. Decimated after Hurricane Sandy, wood salvaged from the boardwalk has now found its way into the hands of artisanal Brooklyn craftsmen, who have spruced it up and fashioned it into the handle on a $195 camping knife. The whole thing is made in Brooklyn, because of course.
