Let's all hope the contract for the futuristic, floating Pier55 works out, because if it doesn't, the city will end up with another (far less cool) glorified pier. According to DNAinfo, billionaire and Pier55 brains Barry Diller has the option of rescinding his many millions for the park if Hudson River Park Trust doesn't fulfill promised overhauls for neighboring piers. If Diller pulls out, the city will still plant its $17 million commitment at the (far less cool) pier, which instead of looking like something out of Avatar will just be normal and have a few benches, railings, and planters. So much for a back-up plan.
