In August of 2006, smart, well-off finance people Stephanie and Andrew Hubbard bought a Tribeca condo for $2.85 million. Back when there wasn't a lot going on in the neighborhood, retail- and restaurant-wise, they wanted to be pioneers. That's what they thought, anyway, according to a profile of Stephanie, her sister Stacey Ruhle Kliesch (a.k.a. her architect), and their mom. The trio then proceeded to completely re-do the "big white box with two floors that had been totally upgraded a few years before." That box came inside a former sugar-processing plant on Laight Street that had been converted four years prior. Inspired by Hollywood glamor, the relatives design team added bright colors, blingy light fixtures, a custom staircase, a new archway, and other distinctive touches. Now the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom apartment just hit the market, asking $5.2 million. Will keeping the reno in the family pay off?
(After publication, we noticed that 6sqft had covered the listing first.)
