Upper East Side House With Celeb-Filled History Asks $17M

New, 8 comments

In its 137 years, the townhouse at 52 East 64th Street between Madison and Park avenues has played host to some colorful characters. After a 1916 renovation led by Frederick Sterner that brought the building its limestone cladding, the nearly 9,000-square-foot townhouse served in part as residence to actress Ethel Barrymore, great aunt to Drew Barrymore. The listing's brokerbabble lists a few other celebrities that have graced its halls in a less-than-typical way,

Since 1961 the lower floors have been occupied by Dr. Lewis H. Berman's Park East Animal Hospital whose list of clients included Jacqueline Kennedy, Julie Andrews, Andy Warhol, Lauren Bacall, Rex Harrison, Henry Fonda, Tennessee Williams and Ralph Lauren. The townhouse is asking $16.9 million, down from its 2014 ask of $18 million.
