Though the volunteers who run Crown Heights' Roger That Community Garden have been campaigning for over a year to save the garden from development, ultimately, there has been little that they can really do short of paying the site's owner, Steve Billings, far more money than they could possibly afford. Now plans have been filed to construct to a four-story, six-apartment building at the site, striking another nail in the community garden's coffin. Billings acquired the property in 2013 under somewhat mysterious circumstances. It is not yet clear when workers will be sent in to destroy the garden, but now, as ever, it's only a matter of time.
