Although it's kinda literally and figuratively in the shadow of Hudson Yards, Brookfield's Manhattan West is also moving right along. The Journal has an update on the 7 million square foot office-hotel-residential-retail development's central office tower, 1 Manhattan West, which includes a new rendering of the , 67-story, 2 million square foot building. Competition from the neighboring Hudson Yards may be stiff: it seems the only major tenant that's signed on to occupy the 2 million square foot building is that law firm from the Harry Potter School For Naming, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, which officially signed for 550,000-square-feet in May. The remaining nearly 1.5 million square feet are available, but Brookfield is blazing ahead anyway.
Previous renderings for 1 Manhattan West show the Skidmore Owings & Merrill-designed building as two towers joined at its base. It appears that that's still the building's design, and that the new rendering just shows the building from an awkward perspective (notice the triangle of glass peeking out from the tower's left side). The other glassy buildings at the right of the office tower include the development's residential building.
