Stuffy Beekman Place Mansion Drops Price to $37.5M

New, 21 comments

When the seven-story mansion at 29 Beekman Place hit the market for $49.9 million in February 2014, no one thought it would sell for that price—after all, the impeccable Ellen Biddle Shipman house on the same block sold for "only" $35 million—but it seems like the owners came to their senses because they have relisted with a different brokerage, and chopped the price to $37.5 million. The new listing smartly avoids the mistakes of the first. For starters, it does not highlight the fact that the house was last renovated in 1996, nor does it include photos of the weird mirrored foyer. The 10,500-square-foot house does have its high points, including eight wood-burning fireplaces, a silver vault in the kitchen, a dumbwaiter, an elevator, two terraces, and a wine cellar.
