New, 7 comments

Mystery solved: as it turns out, the reason that just-south-of-Union Square businesses Bennie Louie Chinese Laundry and University Place Gourmet are closing is to make way for...wait for it...keep waiting...any second n—luxury condos! We hope you were sitting down for that. NY YIMBY reports that plans have been filed for a seven-story building with a mere six units, designed by Adjmi Architects. The apartments will average 2,591 square feet, which is very, very big. The building will also contain a roof deck (either shared, private, or a combination of the two) as well as a gym. Developer Ranger Properties recently purchased the two doomed building that currently stand at the site for $22 million.
