Enormous Lenox Hill Mansion Drops Below $40 Million

New, 9 comments

The humungous eight-bedroom townhouse at 57 East 64th Street appeared earlier this week on the the 10 Most Expensive Rentals in New York City list (it's asking $125,000/month), and now it has returned to the land of (potential) sales as well, with a new listing asking $39.5 million. When it was listed in 2012, sans photos, it was asking $48 million, so this represents a substantial price reduction. The 25-foot-wide mansion was designed by C.P.H. Gilbert in 1910 and remains a Gilded Age marvel. The last sentence of the listing on Streeteasy reads, simply, "King sized."
