Citi Bike is set to roll out 1,000 new, redesigned bikes this week with another 1,400 to come later this year. The new bikes come at a good time, as recently deposed Citi Bike operator Alta Bicycle Share apparently left the bicycles in bad shape and more than half of the program's bikes are awaiting repairs. The new bikes, designed by racing bike-maker Ben Serotta feature improvements including a new seat that allows water to run off, so it won't be soaked by rain, and is "easier on the backside." There's also a new gear system; a steadier, European-style kickstand; and the bikes "feel faster," which implies that they are, in fact, not.
