Someone Bought the Rolling Stone Founder's Staid Townhouse

New, 3 comments

Being that it was once the family home of Rolling Stone Magazine co-founders Jane and Jann Wenner, one might expect the townhouse at 37 West 70th Street to be a little more rock 'n' roll than traditional and staid. But perhaps it's a good thing that marble mantles and wood carvings abound in the 7,200-square-foot townhouse, because after less than half a year on the market, it's gone into contract. Although for how much isn't exactly known, the seven-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom house was asking $17.95 million.

The Wenners purchased the five-story townhouse between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue for $4.2 million in 1987 from the estate of former owner Perry Ellis, TRD says. Jane Wenner has continued to live in the house since splitting from Jann in 2011. The Times earlier reported that Jane Wenner purchased and was renovating a carriage house in the Village, where she plans to lay new roots.
