The condos that are rising on the grave of a longstanding open-air flea market on Broadway between Great Jones and East 4th street are finally willing to show themselves. Other than a few exterior renderings of the building that BKSK pitched to the Landmarks Preservation Commission to pant-wetting acclaim in 2012, not a whole lot has come out about the site. But leave it to broker Fredrik Eklund to take to Instagram to reveal that the building's teaser site has launched as well as post a first rendering for the building's residential entrance, which will front on Great Jones Alley. Although the city's alleys aren't usually thought of as, er, desirable real estate, the development will take the name 1 Great Jones Alley and boast a "private gated alley." On top of that, Eklund says the building will have "a spa and entire level of a waterclub."
The building's Schedule A says it will rise 12 stories and have 14 apartments, included a duplex penthouse. Bets are on that whoever lives in the building won't be decorating with the same Bob Marley tapestries that were so popular amongst vendors at the erstwhile flea.
