Goddamn Tourists

New, 3 comments

A tourism office in Kew Gardens is closing, since it has received basically zero tourists since it opened in 2008. The office is located in one of the city's last remaining Redbird subway cars, adjacent to the Queens Criminal Court (which, admittedly, seems like a pretty low-traffic area for tourists). The car underwent a $500,000 conversion back in 2005, and according to the office of Borough Prez Melinda Katz, the office has had "on average 12 visitors a day, majority of whom were not tourists." "The place is a joke. Nobody goes there, but there's a taxpayer-funded salary sitting there all day," kvetched one of The Post's seemingly endless supply of angry government sources.
