The New York Wheel is inching ever closer to being built and saving Staten Island, as the public review process for modifications to the plans has begun, the Commercial Observer reports. Though the 625-foot-tall wheel itself will remain unchanged from the 2013 proposal, the parking component will be changed from three levels to four levels, and reduced in overall size from 144,145 square feet to 119,746 square feet, resulting in "identical parking capacity with a smaller footprint," according to the application. The change is "due to the discovery of geotechnical conditions that render it impossible to provide adequate foundational support in one location beneath the footprint of the approved three-level parking facility."
