When news broke that the limestone mansion at 17 Prospect Park West had found a buyer, there was a high probability that it would become the new most expensive home ever sold in Brooklyn. After all, it was asking $14 million, $1.5 million more than the previous record-holder. But then, the newly renovated Cobble Hill house at 177 Pacific Street sold for $15.5 million, squashing the dreams of 17 Prospect Park West. The sale hit public records today (h/t the Real Deal), and it sold for "just" $12.4 million. The price may not set a record for the borough, but it does set a record for Park Slope, so it's not a total failure. Celebrity couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany are among the house's former owners, and it features loads of historic details, like coffered ceilings, carved mantles, mosaic floors, and gas fireplaces.
