Building is booming in Downtown Brooklyn, so much so that it's hard to keep track of everything that's going on and up in the neighborhood. So it's a good thing that intrepid city photographer and Curbed Flickr pool contributor Tectonic has kept on top of photographing some of the neighborhood's most awaited buildings as they rise.
↑ AvalonBay's newest development, AvaDoBro (née Avalon Willoughby West), has overtaken the title of Brooklyn's tallest tower at 595 feet tall, just five feet taller than its neighbor, the former record holder 388 Bridge Street. Rentals launched from $2,800 on the 58-story building's six lowest floors in early May. Move-ins are slated to begin as early as August 14.
↑ Things haven't gone as smoothly for the long-anticipated tower at 333 Schermerhorn Street. Although The Hub's initial 2014 completion date has come and gone, the project has made progress since September, when it was just a hole in the ground. The 53-story rental building looks like it's actually on-track for a 2016 completion now.
↑ The lot at 85 Flatbush Avenue Extension narrowly escaped a fate with a structure once described as "the lovechild of the Flatiron Building and a spaceship," which is probably a good thing. Instead, it got this Gene Kaufman-designed boxy thing that will be a 174-room hotel topped by 64 apartments. The studios, one-, and two-bedroom pads started leasing from $2,400 in late June.
↑ It looks like work is moving slowly on Two Trees's 36-story BAM South tower, where work began in May 2014. When complete, the building on the triangular lot bounded Ashland Place, Flatbush Avenue, and Lafayette Avenue will have 384 apartments, over 45,000-square-feet of community and cultural space and a 20,000-square-foot public plaza. The building is expected to be complete in 2016.
↑ City Tech partially razed its aging Klitgord Center at Jay and Tillary streets in order to build out a 350,000-square-foot state of the art building. The building will provide lab space for students and in the healthcare and science departments at CUNY, NYDN says. The building will also have a 1,000-seat auditorium, an 800-seat gymnasium. The building is due to open its doors in 2016.
