Rizzoli Bookstore Will Reopen in NoMad Tomorrow

Last year, New Yorkers rent their garments over the loss of the Rizzoli Bookstore, when the independent bookseller's flagship store on 57th Street was shuttered after 50 years, and razed in order to make way for a—groan—"seven-star" hotel. Now, those same mourners have a reason to celebrate; against all odds, Rizzoli is set to reopen tomorrow, July 27, in NoMad!

The loss of the gorgeous space on 57th Street—with its iconic, vaulted ceilings and rich details—is devastating. However, it seems Rizzoli is attempting to rekindle that former grandeur in its new 5,000-square-foot store at 1133 Broadway. According to The Daily News, the bookseller will be bringing back its classic, dark bookshelves, furniture, and iron and brass chandeliers. The new store also apparently has 18' ceilings, a skylight, and a red, pivoted door. Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects led the redesign.
