Historic 95-Year-Old Theater May Be Replaced by Glass Box

New, 23 comments

The Coliseum Theater in Washington Heights closed at the end of 2011, prompting a "Save the Coliseum" movement in which preservationists and local residents lobbied to have the theater, formerly Manhattan's longest operating movie theater, turned into an arts space. The movement ultimately went nowhere due to a lack of interest from its owner, and now that owner, BLDG Management, is displaying just how little interest it has in saving the Coliseum, having listed the site along with a (presumably speculative) rendering of a glassy shopping center. There is no price listed.
