A 100-year-old sawdust factory is, in the spirit of much of the redevelopment in New York's Brooklyn borough, becoming National Sawdust, a music venue that's an all-in-one concert hall, incubator, nightclub and recording studio. Though Brooklyn's transformation over the last decade may have had an identity crisis every now and then, some of the development hits the perfect balance of nostalgia and a progressive cultural bent. This non-profit performance venue—designed by local studio Bureau V and owned by former tax attorney Kevin Dolan—and finally set to open this October—seems to hit to right notes. At 13,000 square feet,it's slated to play host to some promising programming by emerging artists and established composers, and concerts by the New York Philharmonic.
