A (now suspended) employee of the Department of Environmental Protection allegedly led two of his friends on an excursion into the New York City sewer system to look for "gold, jewelry and guns" on Wednesday evening. Police were alerted after East Flatbush residents noticed the men lifting a manhole cover climbing inside. They arrived on the scene and started to follow them down, then decided that it smelled too bad and just waited for the men to come back out. They did, shortly after midnight, empty-handed, and were arrested.
They would have gotten away with it, though, if it weren't for those meddling neighbors and the fact that it was a terrible and disgusting plan in the first place.
