Our semi-regular feature, Monday Mansion, examines the most interesting mega homes on the market in the far reaches of New York. Have a listing in mind that we're missing? Tell us about it. To the outer boroughs we go!
A garish mansion in New York City isn't an easy thing to get rid of, so it isn't all that surprising that the "magnificent Europan villa" at 184-15 Hovenden Road is still looking for a buyer a year after it first showed up with its marble-columned bathroom and all-gilded everything. Other than a teeny-tiny $100,000 price chop that brought its ask down to a still-very-expensive $3.38 million, everything in the 6,500-square-foot custom-built home remains exactly the same; its Calacatta gold marble and onyx floors, Venetian plaster walls, and Brazilian cherry wood staircase are as over-the-top as ever. Its variety of chandeliers, of which there are no less than 10, is particularly on point.
