It should come as no surprise that SHoP principal Vishaan Chakrabarti's Flatiron apartment is design-conscious. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom loft on West 17th Street, which the architect recently sold for a cool $5 million, features a wide-open floorplan that lets plenty of light into the space. As recently as 2013, Chakrabarti and his wife, architect Maria Alataris, were working on a gut renovation of the apartment, and the effort shows. The rooms themselves feature iconic mid-century pieces—an Eames lounger, an Arne Jacobsen egg chair—without looking too on-the-nose or stuffy. And there are other lust-worthy decorative touches, including floor-to-ceiling Poliform bookshelves, and a huge kitchen with fancy appliances. No word yet on where Chakrabarti and his family will land next—but the buyers of this 2,500-square-foot loft are Thorunn Anspach and Olivier Bremond, who own the boutique Kisan.
