Details Revealed for LES's Streit's Matzo Factory Conversion

New, 1 comment

The former Streit's Matzo Factory at 150 Rivington Street is going condo, and Bowery Boogie recently spotted plans filed with the Department of Buildings for that residential conversion—namely, that the building will have seven stories, ground-floor retail, and at least 30 condos.

According to the plans, filed by architecture firm GLUCK+, the lower floors of the building will have storage units, an exercise room, bike storage, and a laundry room; the ground floor, meanwhile, will hold a lobby and retail. The six stories above that would hold the condos, including what appear to be four duplexes on the sixth and seventh floors, and there will also be rooftop terraces. While those plans are still pending approval, a demolition application filed in December was not approved, which will hold up any movement on the site for the time being.

Streit's was a Lower East Side fixture for decades, until Cogswell Realty bought the site for $31 million at the beginning of 2015. The matzo makers have since moved operations to New Jersey.
