Unsurprisingly, the city’s 11 most expensive one-bedroom apartments right now are located in some of the city’s most high profile buildings: One57, The Plaza Hotel, Jean Nouvel’s MoMA tower, and Norman Foster’s Midtown tower (where George and Amal Clooney recently signed on), to name a few. Also not a revelation: most of these apartments are either overlooking Central Park or are located close to it, with the one noticeable outlier being a condo in Red Hook at 160 Imlay Street. The other ten are all located in Manhattan.
In the list compiled by NeighborhoodX, apartments range in price from $5.25 million (the One57 pad) and go up to $6.895 million (for the Plaza Hotel listing). Most of the apartments on the list ranged in size from 1,060-1,860 square feet save for two: the Red Hook loft as well as a loft in Chelsea, both of which offer 3,831 and 3,780 square feet respectively. The loft in Chelsea is the cheapest in terms of price per square foot at $1,396. On the opposite end, the priciest is a condo at Robert A.M. Stern’s 15 Central Park West at $6,024/sq.ft.
NeighborhoodX however chose to exclude a penthouse unit at 969 Fifth Avenue, which is technically the most expensive one-bedroom in the city right now at $6.995 million, but the listing was devoid of any mention of square footage or a floorplan and hence they chose to leave it off the list. The only building that appeared twice on the list was 1 Central Park South a.k.a the Plaza residences, which apart from the $6.895 million pad, was also offering up a $5.5 million unit.
Note: since this list was compiled a couple of the units have already gone off the market. The second unit at the Plaza is no longer available, and the Red Hook condo is now in contract.
