Tamara Mellon is moving downtown

When Jimmy Choo co-founder Tamara Mellon listed her palatial Upper East Side penthouse in 2014, the Times reported that the fashion designer had also recently snagged a property downtown. That sale just hit public record, unveiling that Mellon is giving up her penthouse in the historic Carhart mansion for a 4,000-square-foot condo at The Greenwich Lane, Rudin Development’s massively popular residences on the site of St. Vincent’s Hospital in the West Village.

Mellon paid $18.356 million for the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom condo in the development’s tallest building. The apartment is about half the size of her current abode, where Mellon lives with her daughter Araminta and two pooches. Mellon told the Times back in 2014 that she was looking for more of a “downtown vibe,” and that she will get at The Greenwich Lane nestled at the intersection of Seventh and Greenwich avenues. Mellon paid slightly over ask for the apartment, which was on the market for $18 million.

Meanwhile, Mellon is still trying to find a buyer for her 7,140-square-foot penthouse. The apartment’s undergone a series of price reductions in the two years its been listed, most recently bringing its ask with Corcoran down to $25 million—Douglas Elliman has it listed for $27 million—from its initial $34 million price tag.
