The last time we checked in with the former 5 Pointz site in Long Island City, the forthcoming rental towers there were just getting their foundation. Now new photos by the Court Square Blog have revealed that the structure is finally above ground, two years after demolition got underway on the iconic graffiti haven.
The two massive, but rather plain looking towers being developed by G&M Realty will stand 48-stories tall and bring 1,115 apartments to the neighborhood (some of them affordable), along with at least 20 artist studios. Despite strong community opposition the 5 Pointz site was approved for demolition in 2013, and work has been plodding along ever since.
Located at 22-24 Jackson Avenue, it’s one of the many residential developments transforming that relatively short, 13-block-long corridor in Long Island City.
