Bjarke Ingels Group and HFZ Capital’s twisty High Line condos won’t only be that: this morning the developer announced that it has teamed up with international spa resort brand Six Senses to bring a 137-key luxury hotel and spa to the High Line-hugging, full-block development.
Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas’ New York City outpost will be its first foray into the urban market. The brand has 28 spas throughout the world, in places that are actually relaxing like Thailand, Maldives, Oman, and Portugal.
The project, at 76 Eleventh Avenue and West 17th Street, will officially be known as The Eleventh. Its two towers, standing at about 300 and 400 feet, will be the tallest in West Chelsea and hold 240 luxury condos between them. The spa will post up in the development’s east tower, giving the majority of the project’s condos in its west tower those sparkling Hudson River views.
In keeping with Ingels’s style, the stone and metal buildings introduce a unique architectural form to the city that, according to a press release, "draws inspiration from New York City's classic Modernist structures and cultural institutions, while skewing traditional skyscraper geometry with rotating forms that maximize views from both towers." Pricing for the condos has yet to be released, but all bets are that they will be pricey.
HFZ has also announced that it’s teaming up with Friends of the High Line to collaborate on creating an open-air pedestrian promenade for the development that will run adjacent to the elevated linear park, which is excellent news considering how damn crowded the High Line is already. The project is slated to open in 2019.
