The holiday season is upon us, and that means many things: Midtown is about to become an even deeper hellscape of uninformed pedestrians, and ads will foist endlessly useless products on consumers through the idle tradition of gift-giving. If there was ever a year to forgo materiality in favor of charitable donations, this is it; but there’s one gift we can get behind, and that’s The 2017 NYC Taxi Drivers Calendar.
It’s sexy, it’s hilarious, and it’s for a good cause: a portion of the proceeds garnered through the sale of the the calendar will be donated to University Settlement, America’s oldest settlement house that serves over 30,000 immigrants and working individuals and families every year with services like education, housing, recreation and wellness opportunities, and literacy programs.
The calendar was created by Shannon and Philip Kirkman, who say the idea came out of a different tongue-in-cheek calendar they helped Philip’s brother make for his wife. The concept was eventually adopted to bring visibility to the under-acknowledged legions of folks who drive cabs in New York City.
It’s the Kirkmans’ fourth year putting together the calendar, which this year features a guest appearance from Avenue Q puppet provocateur Lucy as well as returning favorite models from calendars past.
The calendar is now available for $14.99.
