Back in the old days, experiencing the consumerist pleasures of department stores’ holiday window displays—a seasonal tradition!—required braving both the weather and the teeming masses of midtown. (Also, being in New York.)
Now there is the internet. A few years ago, Google Maps introduced virtual tours of the city’s finest holiday windows, from Macy’s to Bloomingdale’s. But progress marches ever forward, and this year, Google Shopping presents a new and thoroughly improved digital holiday window experience (h/t 6sqft).
The tool, which lets you take in 18 window displays from the comfort of your sofa, offers not only interactive hi-res digital images, but also audio commentary from the store’s creative directors, who are responsible for concepts like “Destination Extraordinary” (Bergdorf) and “Land of 1000 Delights” (Saks).
