With less than three full weeks left in 2016, New York City is getting ready for its widely attended annual New Years Eve ball drop. To get the party started, the number signs “1” and “7” have made their way to Times Square, reports DNAinfo.
The two numerals will soon accompany numbers “2” and “0” in order to complete the “2017” electric sign display, but for now, they’re just chilling on their own next to the TKTS booth. It’s no surprise that the signs are already stopping traffic and causing selfie-taking mayhem, despite only arriving on Thursday morning.
Each number stands at seven feet tall and was manufactured by Philips Lighting. The “1” is comprised of 72 LED light bulbs while the “7” uses 115 bulbs. Both will remain illuminated at the corner of Broadway and 46th Street in Times Square until 1 p.m. on Friday, December 16th before their relocation to an indoor facility to gear up for their debut on New Years Eve atop One Times Square.
