Greenwich Village Townhouse With 'Dramatic' Flair Wants $35M

New, 16 comments

The gut-renovated mansion has a master bathroom as big as some New Yorkers' apartments

"Never before has a townhouse come to market with this particular combination of perfect location on a best block, and with exceptional light," begins the brokerbabble for this gigantic single-family home on West 12th Street. "A home so artistic in its conception and so exquisite in its execution." That's over-the-top, for sure, but the house itself is pretty impressive: There are six bedrooms and eight bathrooms spread out over more than 6,500 square feet, and per the listing, it was gut renovated by the current owner, countess and frozen-food entrepreneur Elisabeth de Kergorlay.

The asking price: a staggering $35 million, which is $20 million more than De Kergorlay paid for it in 2008. (Also, Meryl Streep used to own the place. What a pedigree!)

Here's what $35 million will get you, aside from living on what is arguably one of the Greenwich Village prettiest streets: a chef's kitchen with two (!) dishwashers and ovens; a roof deck; floor-to-ceiling windows on the parlor floor; a master suite with an enormous skylight; and, "the crowning feature of the house," a master bathroom that's as big as some New Yorkers' studio apartments. (It's so opulent that New York wrote about it a few years back.)
