New Long Island City Development ‘Steel Haus’ Will Rise on 27th Street

Will stand 15-stories tall when complete

Construction is now underway on a new 15-story residential building in Long Island City, renderings for which were unveiled Monday morning, YIMBY reported. Located at 41-32 27th Street, the project is being developed by the Hakimian Organization, and will have over 40 apartments when complete.

There's some confusion on the exact number of units however at the building that's been titled Steel Haus, as per one of the renderings. Both Yimby and the Commercial Observer are reporting 43 apartments, but a Department of Buildings filing says 46 units, and to complicate matters further the developer's page says 45 apartments.

The building joins a list of oddly named buildings in the neighborhood including The Edison and The Dutch.

A two-story building was demolished to make room for the structure. Hakimian purchased the site in May of 2014 for $5 million, and the firm recently received a $15.5 million loan for the construction of the project, according to the Commercial Observer.

Amenities in the building, which is being designed by ARC Architecture+Design Studio, includes a rooftop recreational space, an indoor and outdoor lounge, a fitness center, and bike storage.

The project is expected to be complete sometime next year.
