A month-long, continent-hopping experience is coming to the Crossroads of the World. In April, a multi-sensory art installation called JUNGLE-IZED: A Conversation With Nature will take people in Times Square on a virtual journey to the Amazon.

The program is a partnership between the ensemble Soundwalk Collective, Times Square Arts, David de Rothschild (described as a "naturopath, adventurer, environmentalist and eternal optimist"), and audio company Audio-Technica.
Part of Times Square Arts’ "At the Crossroads" program, it features self-guided audio tours via the program’s app. From noon to midnight, visitors will be able to borrow a pair of Audio-Technica headphones from a kiosk on Seventh Avenue between 43rd and 44th streets and "begin the journey through a virtual soundscape that superimposes the Amazon ecosystem upon an eight-square block area of Times Square," Curbed NY was told.
That journey features a soundscape composed by Soundwalk Collective and recorded by sound artist Francisco López. "As visitors walk throughout Times Square, the voices of Shipibo shamans and narration by Amazon experts Jeremy Narbyand Daniel Pinchbeck will guide them along a jungle tour and into a conversation with nature."
From 11:57 p.m. to midnight, the experience will become even more immersive, when the square’s electronic billboards will be taken over by the JUNGLE-IZED video, directed by Stephan Crasneanscki and shot along the 73rd Meridian, which connects Times Square with the Amazon.
It will invite participation in a "simple collective action" and reveal "the hidden energy that exists in one of the most biodiverse environments in the world, bringing the animals, the air, the trees, and the tribal inhabitants of the Amazon to New York City." Viewers are invited to view the video through their phones by enabling a negative viewing function on any iOS device, inverting the colors to reveal a "positive" version of the film.
