Upper West Side Retail May Be Replaced by Another Condo

The property features 94,000 buildable square feet

A retail building on the Upper West Side is likely to make way for a condo building, The Real Deal reports. Alchemy Properties (of Woolworth Building fame) and the Carlyle Group have purchased a property at 2251-2259 Broadway, at the intersection of West 81st Street.

While no plans have been filed as yet, representatives for one of the developers told TRD that the deal on the property, which currently houses a three-story building, was finalized last month.

Retail tenants at the building have already been moving out so it seems like official plans are not too far in the offing. The plot allows for 94,000 buildable square feet meaning it probably won't be a tiny residential development.
