Washington Heights Could Get 171-Apartment Tower

A 23-story tower is planned just a few blocks away from this one

Just a day after it was reported that developers were planning a 23-story building in Washington Heights, plans for yet another residential tower have been announced just a few blocks away, YIMBY first reported.

This new building, to be developed by LargaVista Companies, will stand 19 stories tall, according to a Department of Buildings filing. The building will include 171 apartments, and retail on the ground floor, if the plans are approved. Other features include shared roof decks on the sixth and 19th floor and a laundry facility in the building.

However the developer will need to get a variance for the site as the project is much larger than what the zoning in the neighborhood allows. The developer will have to provide some affordable units if the zoning change is approved. Local residents were overwhelmingly against the plan to bring a 23-story building just a few blocks away, so that might be an indication of their response to this project.

LargaVista has hired Stantec to design the building, which will be located at 4566 Broadway.
