NYC Cabs Will Get Rid Of Their Partitions To Appear More Friendly

New, 10 comments

Were first installed as a security measure in 1994

It's no longer going to be a struggle to communicate with your cab driver through a plastic screen or a hassle to exchange cash under it. The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has decided to do away with the partitions altogether, the New York Post reports.

The measure comes in light of increasing competition from Uber, and officials at the TLC hope that the measure will help cab drivers get better tips.

Cab partitions were created as a safety measure for drivers back in 1994 when crimes rates were still soaring in the city, but now cab drivers have been asked to install a security camera instead.
