Soho's Last Gas Station Is Now Under Demolition

New, 4 comments

The site of a BP gas station could become a seven-story office building

Well, that didn't take long: Just a month after the BP gas station on Houston Street between Lafayette and Crosby Streets closed, demolition is already underway. Bowery Boogie snapped a picture of the station being torn apart; while the shell of the structure is still in place, the gas pumps are already gone. Puck Fair, the bar that sat next door, is also in the process of being dismantled.

Once the site is cleared, a seven-story office building designed by COOKFOX could rise in its place. But the station's closure represented something of a sad milestone: Now, there are fewer than 12 gas stations below 96th Street, as developers snap up the sites and transform them into luxury housing or offices.
