The buyer looking to create a 14,000-square-foot home in part in the Upper West Side's Atterbury Mansion has been outed, and of course it's a Russian billionaire. The Post has learned that banking bigwig Alexei Kuzmichev is the buyer who nabbed two apartments totaling 14,000 square feet in the historic Atterbury Mansion and a neighboring building.
The listing agent who handled the sale of the neighboring property told the Journal last week that the then-anonymous buyer was looking to create "something unique." Apparently a $42 million 10,000 square foot apartment in a turn-of-the-century townhouse does not a "unique" dwelling make.
Kuzmichev purchased the 3,800-square-foot neighboring apartment for $15.5 million with plans to combine the two units. Both the Atterbury Mansion spread and neighboring apartment are part of 33 East 74th Street, a project of developer Daniel Strauss, who purchased the row of buildings for $92 million five years ago with plans to convert them into a 10-unit boutique development.
A penthouse unit in the development hit the market this morning asking $37 million.
